I know Zink's 360 at the rampage was huge and supposedly the biggest ever, but I gotta wonder if this one is just as big or bigger. They are both wicked awesome and I love how both of them crashed and got right back up and sent it again. Honestly makes the 25 foot gap I'm working on right now look like a kid's jump, these guys inspire me to try stupid shit! Mountain Biking kicks ass!

I think bourdons 360 was very big! but zinks 360 was a 360 drop under a contest with much rocks underneath and i think a more hard landning to land.

the difference is that bourdo did a flat 3, while zink did a normal 3 off the drop. in my opinion, the flat is much harder because you actually have to set the spin perfectly to get it to come around right (you're spinning off-axis). zink's 3 at the rampage took balls, but it was much more of a 'huck and hope' thing

Enough about this stupid flat spin 360 already! It wasted too much of that movie! It was in no way special or a defining moment in mountain biking history.

grandmastere - whether you view it so or not is not the point, but for him it was a monumental feat as he over came something that he wanted to achieve and that's how it should be viewed. One person overcoming a challenge.

@ grandmastere - I don't know what planet you live on or bike on but that was a defining moment for both Bourdo & MTBing in general. So please take your hate for something that you could never do somewhere else. K thanks! Plus the fact that he broke his back trying to do this, then come back & stomp that shit is HUGE!!

Zink's 360 was huge, and it was under contest pressure and everything that comes along with that... BUT, Robbie's 360 flatspin was one of the more epic things that has ever been done on a mountain bike. That fact that he couldn't nail it and kept going back for more speaks volumes about how much he was pushing the his limits and the limits of riding in general. 360s off really big drops have been around for a while. Zink was doing them at the Rampage back in the day. Flatspins off huge big mountain jumps. That's innovation.

brule-your comments sum it up perfectly-"it was a huge feat for him, and something that he wanted to achieve". Good for him! But why should anyone else care? It's great that he's able to set arbitrary goals and achieve them, but really his goals are arbitrary. Also he is challenging himself in some ways, but also he's taking it really easy on himself in others. Why doesn't he dirt jump? Too hard for him! Why 'flat 360'? Because he can't learn a regular 360! If he decides he wants to walk up a mountain on his hands do we have to fawn over him for that, or can we just call it what it is-an arbitrary and unimportant goal set by a semi-focused eccentric person?

Olskooljake-this wasn't even a 'moment' for MTB riding!

Ugh you're just a person who likes to argue & talk circles. I looked at your profile & all you do is be a Negative Ned about everything. I could go on and throw insults about how dense you're being about something that the majority of us appreciate. But that is what you're looking for. Look we get it, you're different & you're smarter then all the rest of us. We are dumb cause we find something that WAS A MOMENT FOR MTB & BOURDO really neat & inspiring. If you don't care about the video or an article on PB then don't watch/read & bring everyone else down with your negativity. Do something better & post it so we can all talk smack to your stuff. You just come off as an ass who likes to use big word & smart sounding wording make yourself seem smart. Go ride your bike!

This guy has been a major influence for me and all my friends, if you dont like the segment then fast fwd, the teaser has his name on it, let us, his fans, judge it before an opinionated ass such as yourself, comes around and talks smack about a short amount of footage in his amazing catalog of film. This is a reminder that the Bourdos and benders still have a following among mountain bikers. and as riders we understand the dedication it takes to vanquish a trail or jump that continuously buck you off the saddle. dont be so negative. olskooljake just read your comment before posting and I think its hilarious we said the same thing, just in totally different ways.

I'm glad you guys were able to scare up an angry mob of 4 to really drive your point home. The simple fact is that NWD 1 was earth-shattering, and Bourdo's contribution to that piece was invaluable. The series went downhill and his importance faded. Just as NWD 1 would have been much better with 5 minutes of top MTB footage replacing the lame mountain boarding, most of the recent issues of NWD would be much better with the 10 camera angle super slow motion shots replaced with more footage. There's a reason that The Collective left NWD in the dust, and it's because the NWD crew is stuck doing things the 2004 way with 2004 athletes. The flatspin section of NWD is symtomatic of the larger NWD trending problem. An irrelevant athlete trying something irrelevent for 10% of the running time of the movie. It took stones on his part to try, and it seems like he got beat pretty hard for his failed attempts. Look at it this way though: each NWD installment is essentially a time capsule showing what and who was happening the year it came out. A 45 minute year in review show if you will. This section took up probably about 10% of that film, and there is no way it is/was warranted. There were plenty of more important things happening in the world of MTB freeriding that year!

flag mcmbike (Jul 6, 2011 at 19:35)
You had a good point going until you went on to say that Bourdo wasn't valuable and that his flatspin was irrelevant to the film. Maybe if it was put in a DH movie like F1rst or Drift or 3 Minute Gaps, but NWD has always been a freeride series. And his jump was freeride history. If you wanna look at it your way, any mtb film is a year condensed into 45 minutes. The film crew goes around and films with different riders, and you get the idea of what they did that year. And you completely contradict yourself when you say that you wanted more "top MTB footage," but you hate Bourdo's flatspin, which was probably the top shot in the entire film.

The Collective murdered all NWDs, and NWD 1 would've been better if they didn't speed up the helmet cam and make it look cheesy. But the Collective spends time talking about the individual riders' goals, which you don't seem to like about NWD. Hell, there's more talking and background info going on in the Collective films than there is in NWD.

Know your damn facts before you post. There's a shit ton of important things that happen every year in MTB, and that was one of them. And I guess anyone who disagrees with your unintelligent rambles is an angry mob...

Bourdon is one, and in my opinion, the greatest free-rider in the world. He doesn't care about the cash, or the fame. he just wants to ride his bike. Like all of us. I personally watch this type of stuff to get me pumped before going to ride. This is defiantly what I look for when wanting a pump up! Bourdon also doesn't mind about the geometry or the sketchyness of the jump. If he says '' That cliff has a slope at the bottom, drop me at the top, i'll hit that''. That is the free-ride that we look for today, but can be quite rare today. Well done Bourdon. Your my true idol.

I also can't eat 40 hotdogs in 10 minutes, but I fail to see how that's a monumental task either. I don't even know if Bourdo could do that come to think of it...does that make him less of a man?

It's not about if he's a man or not......I totally see where you're coming from grandmastere.....you don't connect to this particular 'character' and therefor don't care about his struggles or achievements, or what his favorite color is etc....some people, however, do care about those things and do connect (idolize, worship etc.) this person, and that's why it's a big deal, cause they're proud of him and happy for him.....doesn't mean you have to be, doesn't mean I have to be.....but, it comes down to a matter of opinion. In this case, Freeride entertainment and a vast majority of their customers think it's worthy of a significant part in their movie......deal with it. There's better dirt jumpers, there's better huckers, it's about this one guy and his triumph.
